Sick of the authoritarianism, fascism,
corruption, and ineptitude but but not sure how to fight back?

Start here!

We’re all human and we all have limits. Find a few things on this list that you can lean into as a first step, then come back for another bite when you’re ready. We’ll be here.

Boycott

We’re talking about oligarchs here, so the best way to hit back at them is with your wallet. The sustained boycotts are working; keep it up!

Here’s a short list of the companies to boycott (and don’t forget subsidiaries!):

  • Don’t buy from: Tesla, Solar City, Target, Walmart, Amazon, Whole Foods, AirBnB, Meta (Facebook, Instagram), Avelo Airlines
  • Instead, buy from: Costco, local businesses, Amazon alternatives
  • Consider deleting Facebook, Instagram, and especially Twitter/X.
  • If you really want to flex your economic muscles, there’s lots more on our Resources page.
Contact your Senators and Representative
  • Making phone calls directly to the offices of your Senators and Rep is the most effective way to reach them. Install the 5calls app for iOS or Android. Tell 5calls where you are so that it can determine who your elected officials are. Pick the issue that concerns you the most and it will present you with a script to read, making it super easy even for folks with a little telephone shyness. Tap the number and it will dial the number of each person for you. Simple and effective.

Call them daily. Especially if your Rep or Senators are (R), but even if they are (D).

The staffers that answer the phone at my Rep’s office are polite and professional, and calls to my Senators go to voicemail (which gets listened to and tallied by staffers).
  • If you’re feeling too shy to call your elected officials, use Resist.bot to interact with members of congress via text, which are magically turned into faxes and letters.
Get Informed & Connected

There’s a deluge of depressing information out there, and it can be really hard to stay up to date without feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders. Try a few sources at first and fine tune based on how you’re feeling. Take it slow – this is a marathon, not a sprint.

Share & Educate
  • Find common ground. While there will be some folks that are closed to any criticism of the current administration, most folks likely have a few areas of concern by now. Try to find out what areas specifically they’re concerned about, then help steer them toward activism that is targeted at those concerns. You can point folks to this website and let them find their way, or you can recommend specific courses of action to them based on your understanding of their hot buttons.
  • Spread the word. Going to a protest? Grab a few friends to come with you. Having a protest sign making party can be super cathartic. Protesting is more fun and more social that most people realize. Share relevant news, resources, and protest opportunities on social media (if you’re comfortable) or via email.
  • Educate people in your network about what the administration is doing and why it’s not OK. Remember, some folks consume nothing but Fox News and have no idea at the level of corruption and inhumanity being put forth by this administration. If you’re successful at getting someone to wake up, get them connected with some level of resistance, even if they’re not comfortable going to protests.
Donate (money or time)

It takes money and effort to fight back. Please find a cause that resonates and contribute whatever you can. Note that some organizations like the ACLU and CREW seek change through the court system, while others are more protest-focused. We need to be fighting on all fronts.

Protest!

Protest peacefully, please!

We have some articles on Protest Safety on our resources page.

The tools for searching for local protests aren’t awesome, but they’re getting better every day. Check each of the websites below for an event near you and also touch base with your local Indivisible chapter.

Note that this is all grass-roots stuff, so everyone is doing the best they can and there’s not one place that lists every planned protest. Welcome the scrappy resistance!
